Representation matters in spiritual life. For many Black Catholics, sacred imagery has historically not reflected their communities, experiences, or cultural identities. Black sacred art helps affirm that Black people belong fully within the story of salvation and within the visual tradition of the Church. Our goal is not to replace the broader Catholic tradition, but to enrich it by restoring visibility, dignity, and spiritual belonging.
